Martin,

This is indeed one of the finest things you have written. Everything you say is well documented and exactly on point.

As a criminal defense attorney and former prosecutor, it is beyond my comprehension that city officials do not know or care that one of their departments (the PD crime lab) is operating at sub-standard levels, the one department that has the ability to put people in jail, charge them with crimes, set bonds (under DIMS) and throw away the key.

City Rep. Steve Ortega, a purported lawyer, was quoted as saying that since he wasn't told of the scandal earlier, it must mean it is no big deal. What kind of logic is that?

El Paso District Attorney Jaime Esparza said that he plans to go forward despite the fact that the lab's results cannot be trusted. His response should be that they are sending all results out to an independent lab and will be reevaluating the cases. He even puts the onus on defense attorneys.

All this in a city that is a major corridor for drugs in the US. f the Juarez mayor and Da and police lab came out and made such outrageous statements what would we be saying?

This is not a fact because it is not true, "the fact remains that more voters participated in the run-off then in the general election".

More people voted in the general than in the runoff.

Lilly is a known commodity which is why her vote totals were almost the exact same. Ness received more votes in the runoff because they were anti Lilly votes. If Ness wasn't such a terrible candidate and didn't owe the IRS $200,000 more people would have voted and she would have destroyed Lilly. The FACT is people stayed home as opposed to holding their nose and voting for Ness. She absolutely FAILED at mobilizing the vote because if the same number of voters show up to vote in the runoff as the general election, she wins easily. In fact it is obvious that Lilly did a much better job mobilizing voters because she is a known commodity and she received more votes in the runoff with FEWER people voting.

Damn, was your article really an analysis? Get your facts straight before you waste all that time.

You are so biased. This publication is worse than the El Paso Times. According to you El Paso and the United States are unjust, corrupt, etc. etc. Yet when you write about your beloved Mexico you paint a completely different picture. Come on Martin, get real. You visited the murder capital of the world and everything is great but El Paso sucks? You would fit right in with the Times editorial staff!!

Another thing, where is Cd. Juarez??? As far as I know that shanty town is named Heroica Ciudad Juarez!!

It's all about personalities in this one horse town. I can't believe that fines from a judge are such a huge part of the story!!!??!! Who cares.... Oh wait the newspaper cares because TC sued them so they will always attempt to paint her in an unfavorable light. Yep that is the way things are in El Paso. Wrong or Right doesn't matter, it's who you are.

The real story is the DA ruined this lady's life both professionally and financially and we get one "not guilty" article from the paper where 1/3 of the story is about the fines some over the hill hick judge doled out. How many times did the paper write a "corruption" article about Judge Arditti all but condemning her? Where is the apology article talking about what a fine honest judge she apparently is?? Where is the expose on the DA about the accusations that the jury obviously believed about him trying to extort Judge Arditti's bench?

Nowhere else in the United States would any REAL journalist let D.A. Esparza get away with his shinanigans. Unfortunately, there isn't a single journalist in the entire community that has the brains or the desire to blow the lid on the corruption in this politically pathetic town. The reporters/journalists in El Paso are all just biding their time till Clovis or Carlsbad calls so they can get the hell out of here.
